Supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities in general education classrooms presents many instructional challenges and opportunities. This workshop series will begin by exploring the roles and responsibilities of classroom team members (general education teacher, special education teacher, paraprofessional) in an inclusive classroom. Participants will then expand their repertoire of creative strategies for making general education content accessible to all students through the creation of hands-on instructional materials and adaptations of available instructional resources (e.g., textbooks and worksheets). This workshop will provide opportunities for development of strategies/materials to be used in participants' classrooms.
Teachers should bring instructional/curriculum materials related to content they will teach in the weeks following a session. Participants will be expected to implement a strategy between sessions and be prepared to share their experience. Sessions will model active student-centered instruction and integration of technology.
Teams of a general education teacher, special education teacher (district 75) and paraprofessional (restricted to one team per district 75 school organization) are invited to this workshop. Preference for registration will be given to complete teams.
