D75-19-439: Nuts and Bolts for New ELL teachers - A 3-day Institute
English Language Learners 2019/2020

Description: This three-day series is for new ENL and bilingual teachers in their 1st or 2nd year of teaching. Day One will provide an overview of the role of an ELL teacher, including ELL Identification and ELL Compliance, the stand-alone and integrated models of ENL instruction, ENL methodologies, and how to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse students. Day Two will explore the practice of creating adapted books for students with disabilities and using digital resources for making text accessible to students in various populations. Day Three will look deeper into the role of an ELL teacher. New MLL/ELL teachers must attend all three sessions, and will be expected to bring artifacts of instruction to share with their colleagues at the culminating session of this institute. CTLE credit will be given for participation in the session. The session hours earned will count toward ENL and Bilingual teachers' 50% professional learning requirement on MLL/ELL topics as per Commissioner's Regulations (CR) Part 154.
