D75-26-251: Literacy for Early Learners
Literacy 2026/2027

Description: This professional learning session will support educators in developing meaningful and accessible literacy instruction for early learners with significant cognitive disabilities and diverse communication and learning needs. Participants will explore foundational literacy skills, including shared reading, phonological awareness, print concepts, letter knowledge, early writing, and emergent communication.
Through practical examples and collaborative activities, educators will examine ways to embed literacy instruction across the school day and provide multiple pathways for students to engage, communicate, and demonstrate learning. Participants will explore strategies for adapting literacy experiences, incorporating AAC and other communication supports, and building intentional opportunities for students to develop early literacy skills within meaningful and motivating contexts.
