D75-25-230: Page to Stage: Bringing Books to Life 2 part Series
Arts, Literacy 2025/2026
Description: Page to Stage is a two-day professional development series designed to integrate theater practices into the literacy classroom. Day 1 invites educators to explore how beloved books can be transformed into engaging, classroom-friendly plays. Participants will learn foundational elements of theater, devising, and storytelling to deepen reading comprehension, spark students’ enthusiasm for literature, and support early literacy skills. EPIC Players, an inclusive theater company, will guide educators through adapting a text from the HMH curriculum, demonstrating how to connect story to self, promote collaboration, and create a vibrant, interactive learning environment that cultivates a lifelong love of reading. Day 2 shifts the focus to application. Teachers are asked to bring a text from their own school’s curriculum that they’d like to bring to life. In this hands-on, minds-on “make and take” workshop, participants will adapt their chosen text into a dynamic classroom experience, leaving with ready-to-use strategies and materials to implement immediately.
