D75-18-186: Writing Institute: A Four Day Series
Literacy 2018/2019

Description: The District 75 four-day professional learning writing institute addresses the goal of increasing educators' understanding of how to deliver effective writing instruction. This institute begins by examining the fundamental principles of writing instruction in order to answer the question of what effective writing looks like when connected to best practice. This institute provides educators with ample opportunities to explore writing across all three types of Common Core writing: narrative, informative/explanatory writing, and opinion/argument writing. Participants will learn how to gain fluency in using pedagogical strategies and writing techniques grounded in each text type to support students' writing skills. Participants will discover writing practices authors use to enhance their writing, and learn how to employ such strategies in their classrooms. Lastly, this institute will lay the groundwork for assisting educators in designing and imbedding additional writing opportunities into existing curricula. Participants who attend this complete four-day institute will receive a "Certificate of Course Completion" from the District 75 Office of Literacy. (Engaging in Learning).
