D75-19-320: The Writing Process 101
Literacy 2019/2020

Description: This professional development session focuses on examining the fundamental principles of writing instruction to answer the question of what effective writing looks like when connected to best practice. This workshop will support teachers in understanding how classroom set up, management of writing routines, appropriate use of writing materials, and establishment of the values of a writing community, facilitate students’ daily writing.  Teachers will receive an introduction to the writing process and ways in which they can customize the writing process to keep pace with students’ zone of proximal development.  Readiness skills for writing, as well as, the developmental stages of writing will be highlighted to help teachers in determining current student competencies.  Participants will learn concrete techniques and strategies to teach composition skills to emerging and early writers. Ultimately, this professional learning session will help teachers in cultivating a classroom environment that facilitates and fosters the importance of daily writing for our students in authentic ways.
