D75-25-231: Identity through Art
Arts 2025/2026

Description: Get ready for a creative and inspiring day! District 75 Arts and the MoMA Access Team are teaming up to host a hands-on professional development experience: Identity Through Art; a fresh, new, flexible curriculum resource made just for District 75 Art Teachers. Co-created by D75 Arts and MoMA’s Access Team, this guide is packed with adaptable units that connect identity-based learning to the visual arts, all through the lens of CR-SE and the Visual Arts Blueprint. You'll dive into eight classroom-ready units, explore powerful works from MoMA’s incredible collection of modern and contemporary artists, and learn how to use museum archives as a launching point to expand the traditional art history canon. We’ll look at artists who reflect the rich diversity of NYC students and give you tools to design lessons that feel personal, relevant, and inclusive. Along the way, we’ll sharpen skills in visual literacy, discussion strategies, and creative adaptations, all while building your own lessons, and units, that bring student identity front and center in your art room. Let’s reimagine what art history and art education can be!
