Description: THIS DAY IS ONLY FOR SMILE TRAINEES READY FOR DAY TWO TRAINING IN SMILE (MODULE TWO - NOUNS) This three-day workshop will provide training on a language to literacy phonics based program designed to teach reading to students with autism, moderate to severe language, processing issues and/or physical delays. SMiLE has demonstrated success in teaching literacy to students who were unable to retain phonemic awareness using a traditional method of instruction. SMiLE is divided into five modules and begins with sound-symbol relationships. It then moves on to words including nouns, verbs, colors, numbers and moves further along by introducing sentences and ultimately stories. This program emphasizes a scripted, structured and consistent methodology, aligning seamlessly with the ABA methodology. Independent activities are also embedded for students to engage in their individual work stations. Participants who attend this complete series will receive a Certificate of Course Completion from the District 75 Office of Literacy. ** Prerequisite for this course is having already attended the Day One SMiLE Training and achieved Module One success with at least one student. All participants MUST bring a SMiLE Kit and SMiLE Plus CD the training.
